Clemson Corner: David Beasley to be the main guest of the Sonoco FRESH Virtual Summit on Food, Packaging and Sustainability
Clemson alumnus David Beasley, former governor of South Carolina and current executive director of the United Nations World Food Program, will give the main presentation at the inauguration Food, packaging and sustainability summit hosted by Sonoco FRESH at Clemson University. The virtual summit will take place from February 24 to 26.
The mission of Sonoco FRESH, an initiative of Clemson University, is to develop innovative solutions by mobilizing collective intellectual capital and the targeted collaboration of experts from academia, industry and opinion leaders across the chain of food value. The summit theme depicts the goal of optimizing the food value chain to protect food and the environment through safe, secure and sustainable solutions. FRESH is pleased to provide a content rich program that reflects its unique approach to assessing the entire food value chain.

The 2021 summit will begin with welcoming remarks from Clemson Chairman Jim Clements and Sonoco Chairman and CEO Howard Coker followed by a presentation by Beasley. Throughout the three-day virtual event, attendees will hear speakers on a variety of topics, including eco-ethics in travel and food; the current state of the food value chain; overcome supply chain disruptions in times of change; implement and use innovative technologies to provide safe, secure and sustainable solutions; innovative approaches to circularity; design and deliver cradle-to-cradle packaging solutions; advanced recycling practices; launching innovations in sustainable packaging; a case study using sugarcane fiber for food packaging; and the amazing things that can happen when competitors work together for the greater good.
Registration for the Virtual Summit is $ 129 for individuals and $ 99 per person for groups of five or more registering together. The proceeds from the summit will support future activities of the FRESH initiative at Clemson University.
