International mail to China to be disinfected, held for 7 days before delivery: State Post Office

Chinese delivery companies are required to sanitize international couriers upon arrival and hold items for at least seven days before delivery, as part of enhanced measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus from overseas, the State Post Office of China.
The administration will step up inspections of mail processing sites, urging couriers to follow basic health protection requirements, including wearing masks, washing hands frequently, checking their own temperature and discouragement of large gatherings, to ensure safety during the shipping and delivery process. .
Competent authorities are required to step up nucleic acid testing for all couriers, in a bid to boost public confidence in the country’s express delivery industry.
In January, several cases discovered in Beijing, Zhuhai and Shenzhen in the province of Guangdong (southern China) were suspected to be linked to contaminated couriers from abroad.
As of early March, a total of more than 29,000 cases of COVID-19 infections have been reported nationwide, affecting 28 provincial-level localities, including northeast China’s Jilin Province, Shanghai and Guangdong province (southern China).
In order to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 from overseas, many provinces have moved to tighten overseas mail regulations.
The Beijing Municipal Postal Administration has required thorough disinfection of international mail every four hours at processing sites, while postal workers exposed to international mail must undergo two nucleic acid tests every seven days.
A postal company in Chaoyang District, Beijing, reportedly said in an interview with Sina News that it will perform at least three cycles of disinfection of international mail upon arrival, holding it for more than seven days before final dispatch to recipients.
Experts noted that contactless delivery is encouraged and that smart express delivery boxes could also be used, suggesting recipients open the mail outside, sanitize the inside of the postal package, sanitize themselves and to wash your hands thoroughly.
