Mars Petcare to Roll Out New Wet Pet Food Packaging Format

Mars Petcare will be rolling out new wet pet food packaging made from recycled materials.

Cat food brand Sheba will be the first to offer the updated packaging formats in Europe in 2022 as part of Mars Petcare’s efforts to provide more sustainable choices.

The move comes as part of a joint partnership between Mars Petcare, Sabic and Huhtamaki.

The partnership has seen the development and deployment of recycled plastic in pet food pouches using “advanced” recycling technologies (also known as “chemical recycling”).

Barry Parkin, Director of Purchasing and Sustainability at Mars Incorporated, said: “Over the past year, we have worked closely with SABIC and Huhtamaki, continually testing and learning and increasing the recycled plastic content of our pet food packaging.

Deri Watkins, Regional President of Mars Pet Nutrition Europe, added: “As we prepare to roll out food safe recycled content in wet pet food pouches, it is only fitting that with our iconic brand Sheba, which, through its work on ocean health, strives to make a meaningful and measurable difference in the world.

“Our consumers want more than quality food for their pets, and we’re thrilled that this innovation allows us to provide pet owners with more environmentally friendly products.”
