MerryMart activates the first MBOX Smart Locker in Pasay

MERRYMART Consumer Corp. installed its first smart locker at its MerryMart Grocery branch of DoubleDragon Plaza in Pasay City on Thursday, kicking off its goal of deploying 5,000 smart lockers by 2030.

“We believe MBOX will improve the online shopping experience for Filipinos and provide buyers, couriers and sellers with a more convenient, efficient and secure alternative to delivering and receiving packages,” said Edgar “Injap” J. Sia II, president of Merrymart and MBOX.

MBOX smart lockers are self-service lockers, which can be used as a location for pick-up and drop-off of delivery items.

Packages can be placed inside the lockers by couriers at any time and they can also deliver multiple packages to a single MBOX location.

During this time, recipients will be notified by SMS with their collection code once their packages have arrived at the smart locker. Packages can be picked up at the MBOX Smart Locker at their convenience.

“CCTV cameras capture and record the arrival and recovery of packages to ensure the safety and accountability of each package,” said Fernando de Guzman II, chief technology officer of MBOX Smart Lockers Corp.

MBOX Smart Lockers is the first unit of MerryMart’s subsidiary, MM Consumer Technologies Corp. MerryMart has announced that it will initially deploy 100 MBox Smart Lockers in Metro Manila and major areas of the province.

It also plans to set up “MBOX community hubs” in provincial city centers, which will have an MBOX smart locker and an ATM in one place. Its first set of community hubs will launch next month in Iloilo, Roxas, Kalibo, Bacolod and Dumaguete.

“With MBOX Community Hub, we aim to bridge the distance gap by consolidating delivery to key locations,” said MBOX chief executive officer and president Ginger Co See.

“Saving time and money will allow couriers to offer more competitive delivery prices, making online shopping more accessible to the community. “

On Thursday, shares of MerryMart on the exchange fell 2.62% or 10 centavos to close at 3.71 P each. – Keren Concepcion G. Valmonte
