Smurfit Kappa celebrates 50 years in product packaging

Smurfit Kappa, one of Europe’s leading packaging companies, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the product packaging industry this week, having developed automated packaging lines around the world since its launch in 1967.

The Swedish company has served a number of major brands during this period, including Heinz, Bosch, Kellogg’s and Kimberly-Clark, providing them with innovative packaging machines.

In total, Smurfit Kappa has developed, produced, supplied and installed over 8,000 machine systems for its customers.

“The next 50 years offer unlimited possibilities for Smurfit Kappa as a complete solution provider,” said Koen De-Winter, Machine Systems Manager at Smurfit Kappa.

“With exciting new sales channels such as the growth of e-commerce, we will continue to develop packaging lines to launch increasingly innovative packaging solutions and continue to create value for our customers. “

The manufacturing specialist also provides supply chain solutions in the form of SupplySmart and ShelfSmart, helping to optimize customer supply chains to provide a total production-to-sale solution for the customer, which Italian coffee giant Lavazza recently operated.

“We approached Smurfit Kappa looking for a solution for a new line of coffee capsules that would allow us to market as quickly as possible,” said Lavazza research and development engineer Paolo Zonca.

“The case was tough, but Smurfit Kappa reversed it and provided both consumer and retail packaging as well as the machine system that could pack 400 capsules per minute.

“Being able to offer a complete packaging solution and working on the packaging format and the packaging line simultaneously has saved a lot of time and put our product on the shelves faster.

In this way, Smurfit Kappa’s packaging solutions can be customized according to the needs of each customer.
